Tasting Notes: Deep red in colour. Aromas of bramble fruits, tobacco and fresh cedar. The palate has rich blackberry, jammy fruits, tobacco, leather, cedar and smokey notes. Velvety structure, dry tannins and fresh acidity. The body is dense but not over powering.
Chateau Prieure la Caussade is owned and run by several generations of the Armand family - three generations at present, and the eighth generation in total. Found in Sainte Croix du Mont which is unique in the world with its fossilized oyster bed dating back to the Tertiary era (22 million years ago). Thus the roots draw their nourishment directly from this thin soil, which requires suffering and effort from the vine, to create rare aromas.
Each of the appellations benefits from a very particular terroir, but above all from a very beautiful exposure of its vines. The choice of a high density (vines/hectare) and of the most adequate grape varieties (and rootstocks) to favor low yields, contributes to the quality of our wines.
The vines are located on extraordinary terroirs benefiting from the superb exposure. Vines are planted on two different types of soil : Clay & limestone and Sandy loam.
The Chateau is certified HVE level 3 since the 2017 vintage. they pride themselves on being sensitive to the respect of the environment and wish to contribute at our level to the efforts for its protection.
