Groote Post Merlot 2015
Wine with a tremendous balance of fruit, tannin and oak.
Tasting Notes: Elegant and stylish Merlot produced at Groote Post. All the characteristics one could seek in a Merlot are in abundance. Berry and plum flavours are prominent on the nose supported by a hint of smoked beef and mint, resulting in a wonderful flavour spectrum. An explosion of plum, blackberries and chocolate on the palate. A juicy mid palate. The firm tannin and mint structure adding to the complexity of this wine that was aged in French oak for 16 months.
The grapes were carefully selected over the sorting table. The grapes had cold maceration for 2 days in stainless steel tanks and open tanks. The juice was pumped over and the cap punched down three times a day. The juice was left on the skins for 10 days after fermentation. Malolactic fermentation and ageing took place in 300L French Oak barrels. 20% new wood, 50% 2nd fill and 30% 3rd fill.
