Who watched Matthew Goode & Matthew Rhys on The Wine Show?  Didn't see it - well if you like wine and beautiful scenery this is worth a watch. Their base is in Tuscany, although the programme does interesting jaunts all over the wine world.  As the two Matthew's learn about wine - so we do we. For this Blog, it's Tuscany we want to talk about.

If you're never visited Tuscany, then that wonderful pleasure is still to come.  The region is dotted and linked by towns, villages & cities - not all of them are hill top, but of course, quite a few are.  It's easy to see and understand why this region became so popular with the Brits, although the moniker 'Chianti-shire' is a little unfair.  You will meet other Brits if you go in July or August, as you will anywhere at that time of year in Europe - but the flavour, style, history and general ambience is all Italy! Finding somewhere that is easy to 'hop' from one town or beach or vineyard makes this a perfect destination.

This ARTICLE from The Wine Magazine has great suggestions & tips for planning your visit. Monica Larener talks about the history, the food, the wine  and interestingly - alternative methods of getting around. If you have a young family - don't be put off.  Cycling around the ancient walls of Lucca, counting the steps to the top of the Torre del Mangia in Siena - go for supper on the Sunday after the Palio horse race. The winning horse is proudly paraded around the Palazzo del Campo, where the race is held, by members of the winning contrade or city ward. This area is packed with things to do - and don't forget the beach!
