Origini Wines from Marcato

We have just taken delivery of wines from a new supplier in Italy - well new to us that is. Six Native Varietal Wines from Italy : Bianco, Pinot Grigio, Nero D'Avola, Montepulciano, Rosso & Primitivo. All  from Enrico Marcato.

Enrico was born into a wine family, their vineyards are in Northern Italy in the Veneto region.  After working for many years in the family business, he enrolled in the University of Milan to study Wine Making & Viticulture. To further his knowledge & expertise, Enrico worked in California and Australia. Not only is Enrico is the chief wine maker for his family vineyard, he with his partner Rebecca, run Marcato Direct.

The Origini Brand of Wines include

Origini Bianco 2014 £6.50 : This is made from the Gargenega grape variety. The palate is lively and crisp, with hints of honey and almond.  A zingy lime citrus fruit in the finish

Origini Pinot Grigio 2014 £6.95 : A dry, crisp Pinot Grigio with lemony fruit leading to clean, fine & refreshing acidity. 100% Pinot Grigio

Origini Rosso 2014 £6.50 : A blend of Merlot & Cabernet grapes.  Sweet dark fruits with robust tannins deliver flavours through texture and layering. Very easy drinking.

Origini Nero D'Avola 2014 £6.99 : This wine is full of the sunshine and warmth of Sicily. The Nero D'Avola grape is the main grape of Sicily. Cherries, sweet plums & peppers with smooth round tannins. A crowd pleaser!

Origini Montepulciano 2014 £6.99 : Made from the Montepulciano grape - not to be confused with wines like Rosso di Montepulciano made from the Sangiovese grape!! Medium bodied dry red wine packed with dark red berry fruits.

Origini Primitivo 2014 £6.99 : Primitivo roughly translates as 'early one' - the grape being one of the first to ripen for harvest.  In the US it is known as Zinfandel.  Young tannins with sweet flavours of balckberry, anise & peppers ripen by the southern Italian sun.
